Job Summary

Oversee the safe, efficient and productive operation of maintenance crews.  Position is under the direct supervision of the Maintenance Manager or Director.  Position is responsible for directly supervising and mentoring Maintenance Supervisors.

Job Description

  • Visibly support and champion Peabody’s Mission and Values.
  • Act in accordance with and adhere to Safety as a Way of Life Management System.
  • Directly supervisor and mentor supervisors and other salaried staff dedicated to the department.  This includes setting annual goals and managing career development with those individuals.
  • Ensure professional development and oversee training programs in conjunction with training, safety and HR departments.
  • Ensure health, safety and environmental practices are compliant, aligned with the best practice and continually improved.
  • Ensure alignment of the department strategy and monthly/short term planning in collaboration with other departments to meet production needs of all areas.
  • Develop and manage budget for the shops and all associated equipment.
  • Lead the vendor interface and contractor management for the shop.
  • Lead the continuous improvement program in the shop areas including 6S, CI projects.  Set specific goals for all staff and manage the portfolio of projects.
  • Provide leadership regarding company policies, initiatives and objectives.
  • Managing the Technician System.
  • Assist with recruitment and selection process of hourly employees and salaried supervisors.
  • Oversee multiple supervisors/crews.
  • Manage performance management of the Maintenance Department.
  • Conduct weekly safety audits and complete safety interactions.
  • Other duties as assigned by the company.

Physical Requirements

Physical Requirements - Surface Environment:

  • Must have the ability to stand for up to 4 hours per shift
  • Must have the ability to be seated for up to 4 hours to operate equipment or vehicles
  • Must have the ability to work from elevated positions, walk/climb up and down stairs/steps and climb on and off equipment and ladders
  • Must have the ability to wear required protective footwear, hearing and eye protection, and other personal protective equipment as required by Company and MSHA
  • Must have the ability to perform repetitive hand and wrist motions (push, pull, twist, handle), and have rapid reflex movements of the arms and legs and good hand to eye coordination
  • Must have the ability to lift/raise 10 - 50 lbs. without mechanical assistance frequently during the course of work shift 
  • Must have the ability to work in extreme conditions, including but not limited to changing weather conditions, dust, mud, varying levels of noise from low to high, varying degrees of light and dark, in and around artificial light and in a confined work area
  • The job requires that you be able to work various shifts (required shifts include days, evenings and nights with rotating schedules, weekends and holidays 

 

MINIMUM and PREFERRED EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE:

  • Minimum of five years of heavy equipment maintenance experience in mobile mining equipment.
  • Must have prior experience (minimum three years) as a Supervisor in a surface mining operation.
