Job Summary

Develop, design and communicate all necessary mine plans within the engineer’s pit region.  Collect all volumetrics necessary for reporting at End of Month time and for budget.  

Job Description

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:  
•    Visibly support and champion Peabody’s Mission and Values.
•    Act in accordance with and adhere to Safety as a Way of Life Management System.
•    Develop and maintain maps for mine planning, quality evaluations, property control, obstacle mitigation and permitting for all active, proposed, and closed mining operations.
•    Develop, design and communicate all necessary mine plan designs including dragline design, dozer pad design, topsoil limits, Truck/Shovel dump files and Truck/Shovel grade files.  
•    Accurately perform or assist in the gathering and recording of production and engineering data.
•    Develop schedule for associated mine plan designs to keep mine on schedule for uncovering the necessary coal and meeting required coal shipment quantities.
•    Develop reclamation schedule and designs necessary to return land to Post Mine Topography and achieve maximum bond release.  
•    Assist the Engineering Department in the development of special projects and/or project management as needed.
•    Experience with engineering calculations of volumetrics, short to mid-range mine planning and coal quality.
•    Conduct safety observations and audits monthly.
•    Other duties as assigned by the Company.

MINIMUM and PREFERRED EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE: 
•    5-7 years experience in mining related surveying and/or engineering.
•    Bachelors Degree in Surveying, Technology, or Mining/Civil Engineering or related area.
•    FE/EIT (preferred)

REQUIRED SKILLS AND EXPERTISE: 
•    Must have a high level of math skills with the ability to perform survey and volumetric calculations.
•    Experienced in working with survey data to develop base mapping for mine related operations.
•    Proficiency with AutoCad/SurvCadd, Word and Excel.  Experience with Vulcan software.
•    Strong verbal and written communications skills.
•    Strong problem-solving skills.   

Physical Requirements

Physical Requirements - Surface Environment:
•    Must have the ability to stand for up to 4 hours per shift 
•    Must have the ability to be seated for up to 4 hours to operate equipment or vehicles
•    Must have the ability to work from elevated positions, walk/climb up and down stairs/steps and climb on and off equipment and ladders 
•    Must have the ability to wear required protective footwear, hearing and eye protection, and other personal protective equipment as required by Company and MSHA
•    Must have the ability to perform repetitive hand and wrist motions (push, pull, twist, handle), and have rapid reflex movements of the arms and legs and good hand to eye coordination 
•    Must have the ability to lift/raise 10 - 50 lbs. without mechanical assistance frequently during the course of work shift  
•    Must have the ability to work in extreme conditions, including but not limited to changing weather conditions, dust, mud, varying levels of noise from low to high, varying degrees of light and dark, in and around artificial light and in a confined work area 
•    The job requires that you be able to work various shifts (required shifts include days, evenings and nights with rotating schedules, weekends and holidays
