About the role:

We are currently seeking a Land Specialist at our corporate headquarters in St. Louis, MO

 

Reporting to the Manager of Land Records, this role is responsible for assisting the business development team and other related departments as projects or tasks require. This role is responsible for providing professional support relating to the management of US Land Records, Deed and Property Right conveyances, special projects associated with both traditional energy production (coal, natural gas) as well as renewable alternative energy production (coal bed methane, solar, wind, etc.) and other key projects. The salary range for the position is $78k-$97k annually.

 

Duites will include:

  • Review purchase agreements, leases, surface use agreements and other land control documentation for coal and surface properties needed for existing or planned mining operations and related operational support.
  • Coordinate with Land Department personnel regarding initiation and setting up of all new land files and continual maintenance or updates to existing files.
  • Be familiar with all aspects of title research and title curative methods including courthouse records, survey plats, and title affidavits.  Be able to conduct title research or oversee and manage same conducted by a contractor.  Be familiar with title insurance policies, abstracts of title, and title opinions.  When and where appropriate, assist in acquiring appropriate title opinions and/or title insurance policies for all property or minerals being acquired.
  • Responsible for mapping associated with various legal documents, easements, property descriptions, etc.
  • Author and provide maps or drawings or other visual representations of wide array of data sets.
  • Coordination of various workflows and communication with management of such.
  • Generally, work within the department to achieve departmental goals as assigned.

 

The lifestyle:

This position is a full-time role working Monday – Friday 8am – 5pm CST. Peabody offers flexible work policies, including hybrid office/home working arrangements.

 

About you:

  • Position requires a B.S. or B.A. Degree or its equivalent.
  • Computer literacy and competence in spreadsheet and word processing applications such as Microsoft Excel, Word, and PowerPoint are essential
  • Proficiency in AutoCAD and ArcGIS or related mapping software, and integration between proprietary land mapping programs.
  • Competency in the writing and reading of legal descriptions and compiling of such for real estate transactions.
  • Understanding and competency of surveying methodologies and implementation.
  • The ability to ascertain rights or obligations being conveyed upon subject parcels.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills are essential.
  • Minimum Five (5) years of experience in minerals land management, engineering, or other appropriate field associated with coal, oil, gas or other mining business or operations.
  • Land Agent or related experience (preferred)

 

Physical Requirements:

  • Must have the ability to perform office-related tasks which may include prolonged sitting or standing
  • Must have the ability to move from place to place within an office environment
  • Must be able to use a computer 
  • Some positions may require occasional repetitive motion or movements of the wrists, hands, and/or fingers.
