About the role: 

We are currently seeking an Associate General Counsel at our corporate headquarters in St. Louis, MO. 

 

Reporting to the General Counsel, this role will provide global legal support to the Peabody Development and Corporate Development teams responsible for Peabody’s global strategy, business and corporate development initiatives including joint ventures related to renewable projects in the US and Australia as well as mitigation projects related to Project Safeguard in Australia.  Also responsible for all Peabody M&A activities globally.       

 

Duties will Include: 

  • Manage global legal matters pertaining to business and corporate development including M&A activities as well as all non-coal mining initiatives managed by the Peabody Development team 
  • Coordinate business and corporate development matters handled by outside counsel. 
  • Advise US and Australian Leadership Teams on all business and corporate development transactions. 
  • Stay abreast of current legal developments related to the projects pursued by the Peabody Development and Corporate Development teams. Develop and/or provide training on key developments and other areas identified as relevant to the business. 
  • Manage relationships with partner firms to ensure business partners are satisfied with business and corporate development projects and control outside legal costs on those matters. 
  • Other legal tasks as assigned by the General Counsel. 

 

The lifestyle: 

This position is a full-time role working Monday – Friday 8am – 5pm CST. Peabody offers flexible work policies, including hybrid office/home working arrangements. 

 

About you: 

  • Juris Doctor (JD) or equivalent law degree from an accredited institution. 
  • Admitted to practice with 10 years of experience with a record of achievement. 
  • Experience in complex M&A and other business development transactions including renewable projects in the US and Australia. 
  • Experience in managing complex legal issues and serving as an effective member of a strategic leadership team. 
  • Strong business acumen, solution focused and commercial mindedness. 
  • Strong organizational, time management and attention to detail. 
  • Excellent interpersonal, communication and presentation skills. 
  • Collaborative team player with an entrepreneurial mindset and a passion for innovation and driving results.  
  • Energetic, well-organized, and able to perform with minimal supervision, including serving as the lead attorney and legal decision-maker on various projects as assigned. 
  • Capable of maintaining independent judgment and advice while developing close relationships with business personnel. 
  • Proficient in setting priorities and managing expectations with respect to deliverables and deadlines.   
  • Must be a team player who is able to build consensus among multiple departments.

  • Must have the ability to perform office-related tasks which may include prolonged sitting or standing 
  • Must have the ability to move from place to place within an office environment 
  • Must be able to use a computer 
  • Must have the ability to communicate effectively

Target salary range for this role is $186,000 - $230,000 plus short and long term incentives.
