We are seeking a CHPP Process Engineer to join our Wambo Complex on a fixed‑term, 12‑month contract. located in the Hunter Valley region of New South Wales. The CHPP supports the processing of high‑quality thermal and semi‑soft coking coal from the Wambo mining operations.

The role is primarily process‑focused (approx. 70%), with a complementary logistics and coal quality interface (approx. 30%), making it ideal for someone looking to broaden their experience in a complex processing environment.

This opportunity would suit an early‑ to mid‑career engineer, including local candidates or graduates, who are keen to develop their technical capability within a structured and supportive team.

Your Key Accountabilities

  • Optimise CHPP performance, recovery and product quality through datadriven process control
  • Provide metallurgical analysis, mass balance reviews and performance reporting
  • Support daily operating strategies including feed rates and cutpoints
  • Work closely with Coal Quality and Logistics to support production and customer outcomes
  • Assist with sampling compliance, laboratory coordination and quality assurance activities
  • Provide input into shutdown planning, reliability improvements and plant optimisation
  • Support process improvement initiatives and minor capital projects
  • Contribute to safety by identifying and managing processrelated risks
  • Maintain engineering documentation and governance standards

 

About You

We are open to a range of backgrounds and encourage applications from candidates with at least 3 years’ experience, as well as strong graduates looking to step into site‑based processing roles.

You will bring:

  • Tertiary qualifications in Process Engineering or Chemical Engineering
  • Experience or strong interest in coal processing / CHPP (highly desirable)
  • OR transferable experience from:
    • Steel mills
    • Aluminium smelters
    • Mineral processing or heavy industrial environments
    • Coal sampling or coal quality roles
  • Strong analytical skills and confidence working with operational data
  • Advanced or developing capability in MS Excel
  • Good communication skills and the ability to work across operations, maintenance and logistics
  • A collaborative mindset and willingness to learn

Desirable (but not essential):

  • Exposure to logistics, coal quality or materials movement
  • Understanding of processing risks and safety requirements in heavy industry
