Title: CHPP Operational Superintendent
About the role:
The Coal Handling and Processing Superintendent is responsible for overseeing all aspects of coal handling and preparation plant (CHPP) operations, ensuring safe, reliable, and efficient processing of raw coal into marketable product. This position leads the CHPP operations team, manages plant performance, maintains regulatory compliance, and drives continuous improvement in safety, quality, and production.
Role Accountabilities:
- Engage and promote a proactive safety culture by driving compliance, safety-focused initiatives, and encouraging open, transparent communication across all operational crews.
- Lead daily coal processing operations ensuring safety, throughput, product quality, yield, and recovery are met.
- Oversee the logistics chain, including stockpile management and loadout coordination.
- Drive operational performance through effective crew leadership, supervision, and coaching
- Support planning and execution of shutdowns and outages in collaboration with Maintenance.
- Coordinate resources to meet operational targets, with a focus on maintaining consistency and performance within the CHPP team.
- Develop and implement long-, medium-, and short-term production plans, and deliver regular, accurate reporting.
- Prepare and control operational budgets to meet business objectives within agreed parameters and timeframes.
- Provide technical input into capital plant development and upgrades.
- Ensure consistent use of risk management tools by all personnel.
- Update and submit monthly financial forecasts, covering maintenance and production expenditure, to the commercial team.
- Manage the operation of the Tailing system, completing regular inspections on the Tailings Dam, pipe work, water levels, drains and chemical dosing system to ensure compliance with operational requirements.
About the candidate:
- Strong understanding of coal processing and plant optimization.
- 7–10 years of relevant experience in CHPP or coal processing environments.
- At least 3 years in a supervisory or superintendent-level role.
- Proven ability to manage a team and Proven leadership skills across shift-based teams
- Strong focus on safety and quality
- Detailed knowledge of legislation requirements including the Coal Mining Safety and Health Act and Regulations
- Understanding of fixed plant processes and maintenance systems
- Tertiary Degree in Engineering other relevant discipline
- Working knowledge of legislation and regulations
