Purpose of the Role


Oversee mine communications and networking between surface and underground networks.  Ensure upkeep and maintenance of the mine monitoring control screens and devices.  Assist in programming and troubleshooting PLC’s and VFD’s.  Work with electrical coordinator in recording and scheduling substation and equipment rebuilds and services.  Support a safe work environment by maintaining open lines of communication.      

Key Role Accountabilities


•    Establish proper infrastructure to support department vision
•    Oversee implementation of improved technology for mine personnel
•    Aid in implementation of SAP user friendly GUI
•    Aid in implementation of Computer Monitored Maintenance Program
•    Troubleshoot and train personnel in CMMP implementation
•    Develop and maintain library of electronic reference 
•    Pursue and implement latest industry technology for CMMP

Role Requirements




•    Electrical Engineering degree or equivalent.
•    8-10 years of underground coal mining experience 
•    Reliability Engineering certification of competency (desirable).
•    MSHA Electrical Card
•    PLC Programming
•    Knowledge of Federal and State laws associated with the mining industry
•    Mine Foreman Certification a plus (AL preference)




•    8-10 years underground coal mining experience  
•    Experience with Rockwell software or equivalent 
•    Microsoft Office (proficient in Excel)
•    Experience working in a union environment is a plus
•    Experience in SAP
•    Experience in Success Factors and Kronos is a plus

Physical Requirements


•    Must have the ability to perform office-related tasks which may include prolonged sitting or standing
•    Must have the ability to move from place to place within an office environment
•    Must be able to use a computer
•    Some positions may require occasional repetitive motion or movements of the wrists, hands, and/or fingers
•    Must have the ability to stand for prolonged periods of time on uneven, rocky surfaces for up to the entire length of the shift 
•    Must have the ability to be seated for up to 4 hours to operate equipment or vehicles
•    Must have the ability to walk for up to 4 hours at a time.  Will be required to walk through different sections of the mine with varying degrees of clearance and headroom
•    Must have the ability to wear required protective footwear, hearing and eye protection, and other personal protective equipment as required by Company and MSHA
•    Must have the ability to bend or stoop for a full work period as a result of mine height
•    Must have the ability to climb up and down stairs and climb on and off equipment and ladders.
•    Must have the ability to perform repetitive hand and wrist motions (push, pull, twist, handle), and have rapid reflex movements of the arms and legs as well as good hand to eye coordination
•    Must have the ability to lift 25 to 50 pounds on a frequent basis and the ability to occasionally lift items weighing up to 80 pounds
•    Must have the ability to work in extreme conditions, including but not limited to changing weather conditions, dust, mud, water varying levels of noise from low to high decibels, varying degrees of light and dark, in and around artificial light and in a confined work area
•    The job requires that you be able to work various shifts (required shifts include days, evenings and nights with rotating schedules, weekends and holidays

•    At least 20/40 acuity (Snellen) in each eye with or without correction. At least 70° field of vision in horizontal meridian measured in each eye. The use of corrective lenses should be noted on the Medical Examiner's Certificate.
•    No more than 40dB average hearing loss in better ear (with or without hearing aid).
