About the role:

We are currently seeking a Payroll/Accounting/Transportation Admin & Safety Technician to join our Accounting and Safety Teams at our Twentymile Mine location. The Hourly Range for this position is between $29.95-38.25 depending on experience.

Reporting to the Mine Finance Manager and the Safety/Compliance Manager. The scope of your role will be to prepare, process, & submit bi-weekly payroll. Serve as primary contact for customers, trucking companies, and railroad in the Transportation role. Assist Controller with Accounting Duties.  Assist Safety Department with Respirable Dust Monitoring Program. This role offers a great opportunity for growth and to expand knowledge and skills.

 

Twentymile mine is an underground coal mine located in Colorado’s scenic Yampa Valley about 20 miles outside Steamboat Springs, a ski resort and vacation destination. The surrounding area has towns both large and small including Oak Creek, Craig, Hayden, and Steamboat Springs. Hunting and fishing are very popular in this area. Shotgun and archery hunting is allowed on Peabody property for employees with proper authorization.

 

Peabody Twentymile has a safety-first culture and has been recognized two years in a row by the National Mining Association as the safest underground coal mine in the United Sates. The award recognizes coal and mineral mining operations with the lowest MSHA reportable injury rate. In 2023, Twentymile completed three years without a single reportable injury.

 

 Duties will include:

  • Visibly support and champion Peabody’s Missions and Values 
  • Act in accordance with and adhere to Safety as a Way of Life Management System
  • Adhere to Peabody’s Confidentiality policies regarding both with whom employee information is discussed and by maintaining confidential information in appropriately locked filing cabinets.
  • Review/enter payroll related activities in UKG including PTO, call log entries, schedule and crew changes, payroll adjustments, missing timecard punches, extra shift, and unapproved absences.
  • Assist and provide guidance on payroll issues, payment concerns, policy questions, PTO accruals, garnishments, W-2’s and other payroll related concerns.
  • Prepare and transmit a bi-weekly upload of time from UKG to SAP including review of all employee hours, gross wages and preparing a reconciliation of UKG data to SAP.
  • Prepare month end reporting documents including Man Hours and Overtime Reports and maintain payroll files for audit and in accordance with records retention policy.
  • Prepare quarterly clothing allowance payments, review quarterly bonus data and calculations completeness and accuracy, prepare the upload of all bonus and additional payroll payments, and confirm correct payment of bonuses to employees.
  • Provide picture swipe cards for UKG and underground tracking including maintaining the picture database and accurate tracking and disposal of cards.
  • Prepare ad-hoc payroll reporting as required.
  • Prepare and upload month end accounting journal entries and statistical account uploads Compile and maintain Sarbanes Oxley reporting packages with the required signatures and attach copies of journal entries to the transactions in SAP.
  • Prepare monthly coal inventory valuations including explanations for changes in the volume and value and other related reporting.
  • Enter payment requisitions for utility invoices, vehicle registrations and other billings providing the necessary cost center allocations.
  • Monthly trip to the DMV in Steamboat to renew vehicle registrations.
  • Update monthly forecast models to include prior month actual results, update longwall moves costs reporting and other reporting as needed.
  • Prepare monthly balance sheet reconciliations.
  • Coordinate the annual fixed asset physical inventory counts, disposal and tracking of record retention documents in accordance with company policy and support other departments as the records retention liaison.
  • Gain familiarity with Peabody accounting policies and procedures.
  • Prepare depreciations schedules for annual budget.
  • Collect and coordinate the review and payment of timesheets for temporary labor. This will include working with the vendor to provide signed timecards, calculating the expected weekly invoices, confirmation of accuracy of invoices, provide assistance and communications with St. Louis shared services in the timely completion of the goods receipt and payment of associated invoices.
  • Serve as primary contact for customers, trucking companies, railroad in the transportation role.
  • Provide gate and scale swipe cards for coal haulers including maintaining the gate and scale databases and accurate tracking and disposal of cards.
  • Processing daily coal shipments, reporting and sending manifests to customers.
  • Coordinate train shipments with Surface Manager.
  • Preparation, assembly, cleaning, charging and pre-shift programming of dust monitors; Monitoring dust levels during the shift; Conducting mid-shift dust monitors checks; Be a contact with MSHA on all dust related issues at the mine location on their shift; Down loading of Continuous Personal Dust Monitor (CPDM) data to Peabody network and transferring to MSHA database; Responsible for the posting of dust sample results.
  • Conduct and monitor respirable dust sampling and noise sampling surveys.
  • Cross train to provide emergency coverage for the Facility Technicians: Conspec; Under Ground Tracking; Caplamp Permissing & Repair; Meter Calibration, Testing, & Repair; etc.
  • Other duties as assigned.

About you:

 

  • High School Diploma or equivalent
  • Proficiency in UKG, SAP and Excel preferred.
  • Payroll preparation and processing experience preferred.
  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy in processing payroll and sales tickets

Excellent organizational, communication, multi-tasking, and time management skills to manage multiple payroll cycles and deadlines. 

  • 2 years relevant professional experience required

 

Physical requirements:

  • Must have the ability to sit for up to 8 hours
  • Must be able to use a computer and communicate effectively in various forms, including email and by phone
  • Must have the ability to review paper and electronic documents and complete computer entry of data from paper documents
  • Must be able to find, remove and return files to/from file cabinets and discuss issues by telephone and in person
  • Must be able to operate copier, fax machine, etc.
