Title: Sr Environmental Officer
About the role:
Due to an internal promotion, we are currently seeking a Senior Environmental Advisor to join our team at the Wilpinjong Mine – a large-scale open-cut operation located 40km northeast of Mudgee. Producing high-quality thermal coal for both domestic and export markets, Wilpinjong plays a critical role in our wider operations.
Reporting to the manager – Environment & Community this role is responsible for ensuring compliance with our Development Consent, Environmental Protection Licence and Mining Lease Conditions and providing guidance and support to key stakeholders with regards to environment management across the complex.
Duties will include:
· Achieve and maintain compliance with all Environmental Approvals and regulatory conditions.
· Oversee statutory environmental reporting, including annual returns, annual reviews and other required submissions.
· Lead internal and external environmental audits and ensure corrective actions are completed.
· Maintain constructive relationships with NSW and Federal Government regulators.
· Lead site-wide water management, including surface water, groundwater, dam management and erosion and sediment control.
· Oversee the Water Management Plan and its appendices (Surface Water Management Plan, Groundwater Management Plan and Site Water Balance) and manage associated water-related environmental aspects.
· Develop, implement and maintain environmental management documentation, including management plans, procedures and action plans.
· Contribute to ongoing improvement of the Environmental Management System (EMS).
· Identify and drive continuous improvement opportunities across environmental performance and operational practices.
· Ensure compliance with the Aboriginal Cultural Heritage Management Plan (ACHMP) and support on-ground cultural heritage requirements, including involvement in cultural heritage community meetings.
· Represent the site at Community Consultative Committee meetings and community events, and maintain strong stakeholder relationships.
· Manage environmental contractors and consultants, identifying opportunities for efficiencies and synergies across the complex.
· Mentor and support the professional development of environmental staff within the team.

About You:
- You will hold a Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Science or Engineering
- 5 - 6 years’ experience in an environmental role
- Previous experience working in Open Cut Coal Mining is preferred
- Experience in water management will be highly regarded
- Plays a critical role within the department
- Oversees environmental data and contributes to strategic data planning
- Leads water management programs
- Provides oversight of water management plans and operations
- Conducts community consultation and stakeholder engagement
- Builds positive interactions with community groups and regulators
- Strong focus on compliance and regulatory obligations
- Experienced with licensing requirements and NSW EPA processes
- Knowledge of cultural heritage considerations
