About the role:
We are currently seeking a Mining Engineer to join our Wilpinjong Mine.  Our Wilpinjong Mine is an open-cut mine located 58 kilometres northeast of Mudgee producing a high quality thermal coal for export and domestic markets. The mine is a long-life operation with approvals out to 2033.

Reporting to the Technical Services Superintendent, you will be primarily responsible for planning and execution of short-medium term mine schedules, collaboratively working with the technical department and actively engage with key stakeholders to communicate these mine designs to ensure that the production processes are optimised in order to continuously improve operational efficiencies.


Duties will include:   

  • Actively participate in promoting site safety, environmental, health and quality of mining activities
  • Development of the short term mine plan, ranging from weekly plans to 3-monthly schedules.
  • Development of operational “Dig & Dump” designs for Truck and excavator activities
  • Development of dumping strategies to optimize haulage and ensure that the annual rehabilitation target is achieved
  • Provide technical input into operational designs and projects including Continuous Improvement (CI)
  • Liaise with Long-Term Planning team to ensure mine designs are aligned with Mid and Long-term strategies
  • As part of a team, to give assistance and coverage of other team members when required such as Drill & Blast, Dozer Push, and Design Engineers.

 

The lifestyle:

This position is offered on a Monday to Friday roster with one rostered day off per month and can allow for a residential lifestyle. Employees living locally may have the ability to salary sacrifice up to 50% of mortgage interest or rental payments.


About the candidate:

  • A degree in Mining Engineering or equivalent
  • Strong interpersonal, communication and presentation skills
  • Experience with Design and Mine planning software,
  • Experience in open cut mining operations either in the coal or metal industry
  • A staunch commitment to safety and continuous improvement as a way of life

Job Description

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Prepare drilling and blasting plans
  • Monitor of mine ventilation (if applicable) and providing other mine services

EXPERIENCE

  • This is an entry level position that requires basic/recent graduate level engineering knowledge
Physical Requirements

Physical Requirements - Surface Environment 

  • Must have the ability to stand for up to 4 hours per shift
  • Must have the ability to be seated for up to 4 hours to operate equipment or vehicles
  • Must have the ability to work from elevated positions, walk/climb up and down stairs/steps and climb on/off equipment and ladders
  • Must have the ability to wear required protective footwear, hearing and eye protection, and other personal protective equipment as required by Company and MSHA
  • Must have the ability to perform repetitive hand and wrist motions (push, pull, twist, handle), and have rapid reflex movements of the arms/legs and good hand to eye coordination
  • Must have the ability to lift/raise 10 – 50 lbs. without mechanical assistance frequently during the work shift
  • Must have the ability to work in extreme conditions, including but not limited to changing weather conditions, dust, mud, varying levels of noise from low to high decibels, varying degrees of light/dark, in and around artificial light, and in a confined work area
  • Must have the ability to work various shifts (required shifts include days, evening and nights, with rotating schedules, weekends and holidays)

Physical Requirements - Underground Environment

  • Must have the ability to stand for prolonged periods of time on uneven, rocky surfaces for up to the entire length of the shift
  • Must have the ability to be seated for up to 4 hours to operate equipment or vehicles
  • Must have the ability to walk for up to 4 hours at a time. Will be required to walk through different sections of the mine with varying degrees of clearance and headroom
  • Must have the ability to wear required protective footwear, hearing and eye protection, and other personal protective equipment as required by Company and MSHA
  • Must have the ability to bend or stoop for a full work period as a result of mine height
  • Must have the ability to climb up and down stairs/steps and climb on/off equipment and ladders
  • Must have the ability to perform repetitive hand and wrist motions (push, pull, twist, handle), and have rapid reflex movements of the arms/legs and good hand to eye coordination
  • Must have the ability to lift 25 – 50 lbs. on a frequent basis and the ability to occasionally lift items weighing up to 80 lbs.
  • Must have the ability to work in extreme conditions, including but not limited to changing weather conditions, dust, mud, varying levels of noise from low to high decibels, varying degrees of light/dark, in and around artificial light, and in a confined work area
  • Must have the ability to work various shifts (required shifts include days, evening and nights, with rotating schedules, weekends and holidays)

Physical Requirements - Office

  • Must have the ability to sit for up to 8 hours
  • Must be able to use a computer and communicate effectively in various forms, including email and by phone
  • Must have the ability to review paper and electronic documents and complete computer entry of data from paper documents
  • Must be able to find, remove and return files to/from file cabinets and discuss issues by telephone and in person
  • Must be able to operate copier, fax machine, etc.
