About the Role
We are seeking a Senior Mining Engineer – Drill & Blast to join our team at Wilpinjong Mine, a low strip ratio open-cut operation located 58 km northeast of Mudgee. The mine produces 12-14 Mtpa of high-quality thermal coal, supplying both export markets and domestic contracts. Wilpinjong is a multi-seam operation utilizing truck/excavator and dozer push methods.
Reporting to the Technical Services Superintendent, your primary responsibility will be to manage the engineering aspects of Drill & Blast operations. You will collaborate with key stakeholders to ensure efficient scheduling and design implementation, driving continuous improvement in operational performance.
This role presents a dynamic technical challenge, requiring expertise in blasting across multiple waste and coal horizons while meeting environmental compliance requirements. You will have the opportunity to develop innovative solutions that enhance production efficiency and sustainability.
Key Responsibilities:
- Develop and implement drill and blast designs to optimize production efficiency and compliance.
- Coordinate and communicate drill and blast plans with production, geology, and planning teams.
- Ensure all blasting activities adhere to safety and environmental regulations.
- Monitor and analyze drill and blast performance, making recommendations for continuous improvement.
- Work closely with operational teams to ensure seamless execution of drill and blast activities.
- Manage relationships with external contractors and suppliers to optimize drill and blast operations.
- Conduct technical evaluations of explosives and blasting techniques to enhance performance and cost-effectiveness.
- Provide mentoring and technical guidance to junior engineers and operational personnel.

About You:
This role is ideal for a degree-qualified Mining Engineer who has experience in Drill & Blast or is looking for their next stage of development:
- Mining Engineering degree or substantial drill & blast experience in operations.
- Minimum 5 years of mining experience.
- Experience in blasting (highly regarded) across open-cut or underground, in coal or metal.
- Proficiency in drill & blast software (Vulcan and BlastLogic preferred).
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
