Title: Auto Electrician
About the role:
We are currently seeking an experienced Auto Electrician (Mechanical Fitter) to join our Wilpinjong mine site. Our Wilpinjong mine is an open-cut mine located 48 kilometres northeast of Mudgee producing a high-quality thermal coal for export and domestic markets.
Reporting to the Senior Maintenance Supervisor, the scope of your role will require you to work within the maintenance team, where you’ll be responsible for keeping heavy equipment and processing assets running reliably across a busy industrial site.
Key duties of the role include, but not limited to:
- Maintenance and repairs on trucks, mobile plant and fixed equipment
- Fault finding, servicing and preventative maintenance on heavy machinery
- Supporting shutdowns, breakdown response and reliability work
- Working closely with operations teams to minimise downtime
- Maintaining safe work practices and compliance with site procedures

Requirements
- Certificate III minimum (Mechanical or Diesel Fitter)
- Trade qualification in Mechanical Fitting or similar
- Strong experience in heavy industry — manufacturing, quarry, mining, logistics or large-scale industrial environments
- Ability to work long hours
- Strong diagnostics and fault‑finding experience
- Exposure to electric trucks desirable
About you:
- Previous experience in a Mechanical Fitter Role.
- Hands-on experience servicing and maintaining mobile and fixed plant including industrial equipment (dozers, graders and Hitachi excavators)
- Strong mechanical aptitude with the ability to diagnose and repair mechanical faults
- Experience in fitting, assembling, and aligning mechanical components
- Familiarity with hydraulic and pneumatic systems including CAT VIMS and SIS
- Basic knowledge of lubricants and lubrication techniques
What You Need:
- Cert III Mechanical/Engineering Trade Certificate (with experience in rollers and rotating equipment)
- Trade Certificate - Cert III Mechanical/Engineering Trade.
- Working at Heights & Confined Space (Within 2 years).
- Pass a pre-employment medical.
- Hold a current driver's license.
- Safety‑focused with strong reliability and continuous improvement mindset
- Experience working within planned maintenance environments

This job is to carry out preventive and breakdown maintenance to fixed and mobile plant in both underground and open cut environments.
Job Description
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Visibly support and champion Peabody's Mission and Values
- Act in accordance with and adhere to Safety as a Way of Life Management System
- Inspect work area and plant for hazards, damage and defects
- Examine drawings or specifications to determine work methods, sequence of activities or manufacture of components
- Diagnose faults or breakdowns
- Estimate time and materials required to complete jobs
- Raise orders for materials
- Undertake repairs or component changeouts as required
- Clean and maintain tools and work area
- Train other personnel or apprentices (if required)
- Ensure activities comply with safety, environmental and statutory requirements
- Other duties as assigned by the company
Physical Requirements
SURFACE ENVIRONMENT
- Must have the ability to stand for up to 4 hours per shift
- Must have the ability to be seated for up to 4 hours to operate equipment or vehicles
- Must have the ability to work from elevated positions, walk/climb up and down stairs/steps and climb on/off equipment and ladders
- Must have the ability to wear required protective footwear, hearing and eye protection, and other personal protective equipment as required by Company and MSHA
- Must have the ability to perform repetitive hand and wrist motions (push, pull, twist, handle), and have rapid reflex movements of the arms/legs and good hand to eye coordination
- Must have the ability to lift/raise 10 – 50 lbs. without mechanical assistance frequently during the work shift
- Must have the ability to work in extreme conditions, including but not limited to changing weather conditions, dust, mud, varying levels of noise from low to high decibels, varying degrees of light/dark, in and around artificial light, and in a confined work area
- Must have the ability to work various shifts (required shifts include days, evening and nights, with rotating schedules, weekends and holidays)
UNDERGROUND ENVIRONMENT
- Must have the ability to stand for prolonged periods of time on uneven, rocky surfaces for up to the entire length of the shift
- Must have the ability to be seated for up to 4 hours to operate equipment or vehicles
- Must have the ability to walk for up to 4 hours at a time. Will be required to walk through different sections of the mine with varying degrees of clearance and headroom
- Must have the ability to wear required protective footwear, hearing and eye protection, and other personal protective equipment as required by Company and MSHA
- Must have the ability to bend or stoop for a full work period as a result of mine height
- Must have the ability to climb up and down stairs/steps and climb on/off equipment and ladders
- Must have the ability to perform repetitive hand and wrist motions (push, pull, twist, handle), and have rapid reflex movements of the arms/legs and good hand to eye coordination
- Must have the ability to lift 25 – 50 lbs. on a frequent basis and the ability to occasionally lift items weighing up to 80 lbs.
- Must have the ability to work in extreme conditions, including but not limited to changing weather conditions, dust, mud, varying levels of noise from low to high decibels, varying degrees of light/dark, in and around artificial light, and in a confined work area
- Must have the ability to work various shifts (required shifts include days, evening and nights, with rotating schedules, weekends and holidays)
