About the role:

We are currently looking for a Production, Drill & Blast Superintendent at our Coppabella / Moorvale Joint Venture mine, working a 8/6 dayshift roster with a residential lifestyle or camp accommodation for DIDO or FIFO. Coppabella, Moorvale Joint Venture (CMJV) operation consists of three open-cut mine pits producing premium low-volatile pulverised coal (LV-PCI) for export markets. 
 

Reporting to the Mine Manager, you will manage a team of Supervisor reports being a combination of Peabody Employees & Contractors. You will also be responsible for but not limited to the following duties:

  • Liaising and directing Drill and Blast Drill & Blast Engineers to execute drilling & blasting instructions and plans.
  • Supervision to the team for drilling and blasting activities.
  • Responsible overseeing  drilling & blasting consumables including purchasing & stock control.
  • Management of the Supervisors overseeing the day-to-day Explosive precursor requirements, orders & reconciliation as dictated by the Mine plan.
  • Supervising and overseeing all maintenance activities in relation to the reload compound and Explosive Magazine.
  • Ensuring drill pattern clean-up expectations are aligned with company standards.
  • Ensuring completed drill patterns are left to an acceptable standard for incoming blast crew.
  • Ensuring drill patterns are completed in a safe and timely manner.
  • Filling in for absent Shotfirers where required.
  • Ensuring adequate stemming material is available to blast crew when required.
  • Daily, weekly & monthly inspections of drilling & blasting work areas.
  • Comprehensive understanding of Qld Explosive Act, Standards, Codes & Regulations.
  • Advanced knowledge of pre-strip blasting techniques.

To be successful in this role you will have: 

  • At least 5 years experience in Drill & Blast Operations, and Supervisory/ Superintendent  experience in a coal mining operation.
  • S1, S2, S3, G2 Qualifications.
  • Current QLD Shot firing licence.
  • Explosives Security Card.
  • OCE qualification (DNRM certified) Not essential however advantageous
  • Solid verbal and written communication skills.
  • Proficient computer skills
  • Strong commitment to safety as a way of life.
  • MMU or MPU experience desirable.

The lifestyle: 

This position is offered on an 8/6 roster day shift only and can allow for a residential (Moranbah or Nebo), DIDO, or FIFO lifestyle.  Employees living residentially may have access to a $16,500 housing allowance and may be able to salary sacrifice up to 50% of rental payments.

Job Summary

The Superintendent Open Cut Mining is responsible for coordinating shift production activities so that continuity of operations is achieved in accordance with budget tonnage and quality objectives and ensuring all resources are available for optimal production.

Job Description

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES 

  • Visibly support and champion Peabody’s Missions and Values

  • Monitor and control the daily activities of the mining contractor or shift supervisors to ensure continuity of operations and that budget targets are achieved
  • Produce production reports
  • Ensure grade control procedures are followed
  • Liaise with maintenance personnel to ensure optimal equipment availability
  • Inspect the workplace for safe and healthy work practices and environment and actively promoting mine safety among workforce
  • Ensure activities are consistent with safe mining practices
  • Ensure that employees receive proper induction and training in safe work practices
  • Ensure positive industrial relations are promoted around the mine duties may be partially defined by statute
  • Ensure activities comply with safety, environmental and statutory requirements
  • Other duties as assigned by the company

EXPERIENCE

  • 5 years relevant management and operational experience required
  • 3 years supervisory experience required

Physical Requirements

Physical Requirements - Surface Environment 

  • Must have the ability to stand for up to 4 hours per shift
  • Must have the ability to be seated for up to 4 hours to operate equipment or vehicles
  • Must have the ability to work from elevated positions, walk/climb up and down stairs/steps and climb on/off equipment and ladders
  • Must have the ability to wear required protective footwear, hearing and eye protection, and other personal protective equipment as required by Company and MSHA
  • Must have the ability to perform repetitive hand and wrist motions (push, pull, twist, handle), and have rapid reflex movements of the arms/legs and good hand to eye coordination
  • Must have the ability to lift/raise 10 – 50 lbs. without mechanical assistance frequently during the work shift
  • Must have the ability to work in extreme conditions, including but not limited to changing weather conditions, dust, mud, varying levels of noise from low to high decibels, varying degrees of light/dark, in and around artificial light, and in a confined work area
  • Must have the ability to work various shifts (required shifts include days, evening and nights, with rotating schedules, weekends and holidays)

Physical Requirements - Underground Environment

  • Must have the ability to stand for prolonged periods of time on uneven, rocky surfaces for up to the entire length of the shift
  • Must have the ability to be seated for up to 4 hours to operate equipment or vehicles
  • Must have the ability to walk for up to 4 hours at a time. Will be required to walk through different sections of the mine with varying degrees of clearance and headroom
  • Must have the ability to wear required protective footwear, hearing and eye protection, and other personal protective equipment as required by Company and MSHA
  • Must have the ability to bend or stoop for a full work period as a result of mine height
  • Must have the ability to climb up and down stairs/steps and climb on/off equipment and ladders
  • Must have the ability to perform repetitive hand and wrist motions (push, pull, twist, handle), and have rapid reflex movements of the arms/legs and good hand to eye coordination
  • Must have the ability to lift 25 – 50 lbs. on a frequent basis and the ability to occasionally lift items weighing up to 80 lbs.
  • Must have the ability to work in extreme conditions, including but not limited to changing weather conditions, dust, mud, varying levels of noise from low to high decibels, varying degrees of light/dark, in and around artificial light, and in a confined work area
  • Must have the ability to work various shifts (required shifts include days, evening and nights, with rotating schedules, weekends and holidays)

Physical Requirements - Office

  • Must have the ability to sit for up to 8 hours
  • Must be able to use a computer and communicate effectively in various forms, including email and by phone
  • Must have the ability to review paper and electronic documents and complete computer entry of data from paper documents
  • Must be able to find, remove and return files to/from file cabinets and discuss issues by telephone and in person
  • Must be able to operate copier, fax machine, etc.
