We are currently seeking a Production Co-ordinator at our Coppabella Moorvale Joint Venture (CMJV) – Coppabella Mine. Our CMJV mine complex consists of two open-cut mine operations located approximately 140 kilometres southwest of Mackay that produce premium low-volatile pulverized coal (LV-PCI) for export markets.

 

About the role:

 

Peabody is currently seeking a dedicated and experienced Production Co-ordinator to join our open cut mining team at the Coppabella Moorvale Mine Complex (CMJV).

Reporting to the Production Supervisor, this role is responsible for coordinating daily mine operations while ensuring compliance with all relevant legislation and site standards. The successful candidate will provide strong leadership to drive safe, efficient, and effective production outcomes. This includes supporting a high-performance culture focused on disciplined task execution and accountability, while actively managing production teams and contractors to maintain high standards in safety, attendance and operational efficiency.

 

Key Responsibilities:

 

  • Execute mine plans effectively, escalate risks or constraints, and ensure smooth shift handovers with accurate information.
  • Support workforce development through coaching, mentoring, and performance management, including training and skill development.
  • Assist with HR/IR issues, incident investigations, and administrative tasks related to performance and compliance tracking.
  • Focus on the productivity of the shovel fleet, including cable management, relocations, and dump strategies to optimise performance.
  • Provide visible and proactive leadership in safety, ensuring compliance with Peabody’s SAWOL safety management system, and site procedures.
  • Conduct regular site inspections, critical control verifications, and safety interactions to drive a culture of risk awareness and compliance.
  • Ensure timely reporting and investigation of incidents, near misses, and notifiable events in alignment with corporate and statutory requirements.
  • Lead by example in safety and work standards, holding teams accountable for safe behaviours and quality performance.
  • Manage daily mining activities to achieve production targets safely, efficiently, and cost-effectively.
  • Establish and maintain mining standards, including haul roads, floor and dump quality, and hazard isolation protocols.
  • Collaborate with Maintenance, Technical Services, and CHPP teams to coordinate operational plans and resolve cross-functional issues.
  • Monitor and report on production performance, KPIs, and events impacting equipment reliability or operational results.

 

About you:

 

For success in this role, you will be required to have previous leadership experience in Open Cut Mining at a Supervisory, Co-ordinator or leading hand level. We also require the following qualifications, skills and experience:

  • Minimum 5 years' experience in open cut mining operations with a strong understanding of production environments
  • Proven leadership experience in managing teams or coordinating projects within a mining context
  • Hold S1, S2, S3 Supervisory competencies; OCE ticket is desirable or a strong willingness to obtain
  • Sound understanding of risk management processes, including conducting JSAs and risk assessments
  • Solid knowledge of site CMSH Acts and Regulations
  • Strong commitment to safety with a demonstrated ability to lead by example and promote safe work practices
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to engage effectively across teams
  • High level of motivation, integrity, and accountability in achieving performance outcomes
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office applications, particularly Word and Excel
  • Ability to foster positive working relationships and contribute to a culture of respect, diversity, and continuous improvement

This position is offered on 7 days on 7 days off roster and can allow for a residential (Moranbah) DIDO or FIFO from Brisbane. For those seeking a more permanent base, the company is also open to providing relocation support to the Moranbah or Mackay region.
