We are currently seeking a Mine Geologist to join our Coppabella Moorvale Joint Venture.  Our Coppabella Moorvale mine complex consists of three open-cut mine operations located approximately 140 kilometres southwest of Mackay that produce premium low-volatile pulverised coal (LV-PCI) for export markets.

 

Reporting to the Strategic Planning Superintendent, the Mine Geologist provides geological input into both planning and execution stages of operations to ensure adequate resource knowledge is applied to maximise value for the operation. It’s critical to ensure that a safe work environment is maintained through demonstrated leadership and commitment to safe behaviours.

 

Duties will include:

  • Achieving the companies HSEC objectives and targets.
  • Compliance with HSEC Company policies and procedures, the Coal Mining Safety and Health Act and Regulations.
  • Collect and collate all geological information relevant to the mining process
  • Assist with delivery of site short term geological models on a timely basis
  • Provide information and advice to mine planning processes to meet production and quality targets.
  • Assist mining personnel in developing clean coal mining practices
  • Implement and maintain site reconciliation processes to achieve Company standards

 

The lifestyle:
This position is offered on an 8/6 roster and can allow for a residential (Moranbah or Nebo), DIDO or FIFO lifestyle (from Brisbane).  Employees living residentially may have access to a $15,000 housing allowance and may have the ability to salary sacrifice up to 50% of rental payments.

 

About You:

  • Tertiary qualifications in Geology or an associated discipline
  • Experience in a similar operational role within the coal mining industry
  • Proficient computer skills and literacy, including: Vulcan, Point Studio, Geology Core, Microsoft Office (in particular Excel, Word and Powerpoint)
  • Practical understanding of mining methods, mining equipment capability and their interaction with the mine environment for open cut coal operations
  • Practical coal quality interpretation skills
  • Highwall mapping / drone photography
  • Ability to communicate with all levels of management
  • Shows initiative to complete specific tasks; delivers results on time and budget
