Centurion Mine, our modern longwall operation located approximately 160km west of Mackay, plays a vital role in supplying high-quality metallurgical coal to the global market. As part of our ongoing growth, we're now seeking an experienced Payroll Officer to join our site-based team.
About the Role:
The Payroll Officer will be responsible for the accurate and timely processing of site-based payroll activities. You will act as the first point of contact for payroll-related queries and ensure all transactions are completed in compliance with industrial instruments, legislation, and Peabody policy.
This role is suited to someone with strong attention to detail, excellent organisational skills, and the ability to maintain confidentiality while supporting a dynamic mining workforce.
Key Duties:
- Process end-to-end payroll for a diverse workforce (weekly and fortnightly cycles)
- Manage timesheet validations, leave accruals, terminations, and superannuation processing
- Interpret Enterprise Agreements and Awards to ensure accurate payments
- Respond to employee queries and provide payroll-related support to supervisors and managers
- Reconcile payroll reports and assist with internal and external audits
- Maintain employee data within the HRIS and payroll system (Chris21 or similar)
- Collaborate closely with HR, Finance and Site Administration to ensure integrated service delivery
- Support payroll projects and continuous improvement initiatives as required
About You:
To be successful in this role, you will have:
- Prior experience in a similar payroll processing position, ideally within the mining, resources or heavy industry sectors
- Strong understanding of payroll legislation, taxation, superannuation, and Fair Work compliance
- Demonstrated ability to interpret EAs and Awards
- High level of accuracy and attention to detail
- Proficiency in payroll/HRIS systems (e.g. SAP, or similar)
- Intermediate to advanced skills in Microsoft Excel
- A proactive and approachable attitude with strong communication skills
- The ability to work independently and as part of a fast-paced team
