About the role:

We are currently seeking Sr. Manager, Environmental Services at our North Complex mine site. Our North Complex consists of two mines located within 20 miles of Gillette, WY. These sites are surface mines producing thermal coal with more than 465 million tons of proven and probable reserves.

 

Reporting to the VP Environmental and Land this role will be responsible for the environmental permitting, reporting, reclamation and compliance work that supports Peabody’s mines in Wyoming, Colorado, and New Mexico.

 

Duties will include:

  • Responsible for acquiring and maintaining the necessary state and federal environmental operating permits required for coal mining operations. 
  • Responsible for the timely completion of the required reports for regulatory and internal purposes.
  • Responsible for coordinating with mine staff regarding permitting, reporting, compliance, bond release or other environmental needs.  
  • Responsible for adherence to the requirements of membership in the Thunder Basin Grassland Prairie Ecosystem Association, including annual reporting and tracking.
  • Provides leadership and environmental technical expertise to the relevant state mining associations and the National Mining Association. 
  • Oversees the annual Asset Retirement Obligation updates.
  • Assists with internal and external environmental audits and corrective actions.
  • Responsible for supervision and management of the PRB Environmental Services team. 
  • Other duties as assigned

 

The lifestyle:

This position will work a Monday-Friday roster from 6am-2pm, based out of our North Complex mine site. This area has great schools, outdoor opportunities such as hunting, fishing and hiking and is a small town with a big town feel.

 

About you:

  • Bachelor’s degree or higher in engineering, environmental sciences or related field.
  • Minimum of ten years of experience in the mining environmental field
  • Experience in leading a diverse environmental services staff is desired.
  • Significant experience with SMCRA, the Clean Water Act and the Clean Air Act regulatory frameworks, and the associated state programs. 
  • Ability to establish effective working relationships with the regulatory community, mine staff and other interested parties.  
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Knowledgeable in the use of Microsoft Office suite of software.
  • Working knowledge of SAP 
  • Commitment to a high level of customer service 
  • Strong attention to detail for accuracy in performing data entry and paperwork processing 
  • Ability to work independently and in collaboration to achieve department vision and goals 
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite, including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint 

 

Physical Requirements:

  • Must have the ability to perform office related tasks which may include prolonged sitting or standing
  • Must have the ability to move from place to place within an office environment 
  • Must be able to use a computer
  • Some positions may require occasional repetitive motion or movements of the wrists, hands, and/or fingers
