About the role:
We are currently seeking a HR Manager at our North Complex location.  Our North Complex consists of two mines located within 20 miles of Gillette, WY. These sites are surface mines producing thermal coal with more than 465 million tons of proven and probable reserves.


As the HR Manager, you will report to the Director Operations HR based in St. Louis and will work closely with the site General Manager and other leaders as a key part of the Site Leadership Team. The scope of your role will be to manage Peabody’s HR strategy at the North Complex and provide high level advice and support to the onsite leadership team and employees in the areas of employee relations,  policy, change management, staffing, compliance and compensation and benefits. 


Duties will include:

  • Guide the development and implementation of HR Strategies and programs
  • Act as consultant for Employee Relations matters including policy interpretation and disciplinary procedures
  • Lead investigations and make recommendations
  • Provide HR support to all site employees (~350)
  • Support a culture of continuous improvement and preparedness and adaptability to change
  • Providing coaching to leaders and support to employees to ensure positive employee relations
  • Support all hiring activities across the complex
  • Assist in training and development needs of employees
  • Assist with community relations and manage charitable contributions budget
  • Ensure compliance with legislation and company policy and procedures, including AA/EEO


The lifestyle:
This position is offered on a Monday to Friday roster which will alternate between the North Complex mines every week and can allow for a residential lifestyle in Gillette, WY. This area has great schools, outdoor opportunities such as hunting, fishing and hiking and is a small town with a big town feel.


About you:

  • Bachelor’s degree essential, ideally in Human Resources, Business, or related field required
  • 7+ years of verifiable HR experience required, preferably with exposure to a mine or industrial environment, and at least 2 years’ experience at a leadership level
  • SHRM certification preferred
  • Solid HR functional skills and knowledge of employment law
  • Strong computer skills, including MS Office
  • Experience with SAP and SuccessFactors preferred


In addition to the above, the successful candidate will have excellent communication, change management, problem solving and influencing skills along with the ability to build and maintain positive working relationships across all levels of the organization.


Physical requirements:

  • Must have the ability to sit for up to 8 hours 
  • Must be able to use a computer, communicate effectively in various forms, including by email and phone
  • Must be able to review paper and electronic documents, complete computer entry of data from paper documents
  • Must be able to find, remove and return files to/from file cabinets; discuss issues by telephone and in person
  • Must be able to operate copier, fax machine, etc.
