Job Summary

This job is working with the utility crew and requires MSHA electrical certification (low, medium, and high voltage). It is a straight day position that follows the specialty crew rotation.

Job Description

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Ability and commitment to work safely.
  • Two (2) years mine electrical experience or completion of two (2) years vocational school and one (1) year mine electrical experience.
  • MSHA electrical certification (low, medium, and high voltage).
  • Must have experience troubleshooting and maintaining DC control systems for shovels and draglines or similar type control systems.
  • Understand and use electrical schematics and wiring diagrams.
  • Have experience in installing electrical circuits, services and controls in industrial applications in accordance with CFR 30 and the NEC.
  • Experienced in installing, repairing and maintaining high voltage equipment, (transformers, power line, trail cable, breakers and sub-stations).  This also includes repair, installation and troubleshooting on over current relays, under voltage relays, ground detection relays and ground monitor relays.
  • Have experience in repairing and removing motors, DC generators, capacitors and transformers.  (Change out rotors, field coils, armatures and bearings).
  • Excellent verbal/written communication skills to foster positive and effective information sharing across departments and crews.
  • Strong planning skills to facilitate coordinated work with the mine plan.
  • Able to work rotating shifts, weekends, and overtime when required.
  • Inspect work area and plant for hazards, damage and defects
  • Ensure activities comply with safety, environmental and statutory requirements
  • Other duties as assigned by the company

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to perform maintenance tasks at varying heights.
  • Reach, handle, feel or operate objects, tools or controls with hands and arms, legs and feet
  • Stand, walk; sit; climb; balance; stoop; kneel; crouch, crawl, and climb ladders/steps
  • Lift and/or move up to 50 pounds for a minimal distance
  • Talk to, communicate with, and hear others
  • See (vision abilities include: close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus)
  • Ability to maintain mental focus and concentration
  • Perform all duties day and night, on all surfaces and in all weather conditions
  • Must have the ability to stand for up to 4 hours per shift
  • Must have the ability to be seated for up to 4 hours to operate equipment or vehicles
  • Must have the ability to work from elevated positions, walk/climb up and down stairs/steps and climb on/off equipment and ladders
  • Must have the ability to wear required protective footwear, hearing and eye protection, and other personal protective equipment as required by Company and MSHA
  • Must have the ability to perform repetitive hand and wrist motions (push, pull, twist, handle), and have rapid reflex movements of the arms/legs and good hand to eye coordination
  • Must have the ability to lift/raise 10 – 50 lbs. without mechanical assistance frequently during the work shift
  • Must have the ability to work in extreme conditions, including but not limited to changing weather conditions, dust, mud, varying levels of noise from low to high decibels, varying degrees of light/dark, in and around artificial light, and in a confined work area
  • Must have the ability to work various shifts (required shifts include days, evening and nights, with rotating schedules, weekends and holidays)

Education

  • High School Degree or GED Equivalent required
