About the role:

The PRB (NARM, Rawhide, Caballo) currently have Eight (8) openings for the position (Welders and/or Mechanics) on the DDS Regional Crew to join our Open Cut Maintenance team. NARM is the largest surface coal mine in the US and is located in Wright, Wyoming. The mine produces high quality thermal coal that is loaded onto haul trucks and then shipped by rail. It has approximately 465 million tons of coal reserves.

 

The purpose of this crew is to utilize the expertise from all the Peabody locations in the Powder River Basin for the heavy maintenance of the Shovels and Draglines. This crew will be over the planned outages not the day-to-day maintenance.

The purpose of the role is to safely operate a variety of heavy equipment and Rope shovels in Coal and Overburden environments in the mining industry.  Responsible for completion of pre-operational inspections, safety interactions and productive/efficient skilled operations of assigned equipment. 

 

Duties will include:

  • Conduct safety observations and complete safety interactions monthly.
  • Other duties as assigned by the company.

 

The Lifestyle:

This position may require the necessity to work weekends, holidays, or another shift as deemed necessary. 

Will be outside through large outages, Will be scheduled at all locations by Team Lead for the crew, responsible for traveling to mine sites with the needed tooling.

About you:

  • Must have a minimum of three (3) years of mining related or industrial experience working on large rope shovels and draglines
  • Work safely and promote safe behavior in others
  • Able to obtain pit driving license at all 3 locations.
  • Experience with shovel repairs, job scopes and planning
  • Be able to meet deadlines
  • Good communication with mine personnel, verbal and written skills
  • Experience with large outages
  • Be required to work at all Peabody mines in the basin as needed.
  • Good Hazard recognition
  • Follow the isolation procedures for all equipment on all sites
  • Become confined space certified.
  • Lifting and rigging training
  • Pass a 1 in weld test or equivalent certification
  • Machining experience a plus
  • Ability to solve problems that may arise in pit conditions
  • Ability to identify defects in equipment.
  • Knowledge of mine production.
  • Ability to listen and follow direction and handle on-board computer systems.
  • Ability to operate equipment in all types of weather conditions and at different times of day.
  • Ability to train others in equipment operation.

 

Physical Requirements - Surface:

  • Must have the ability to stand for up to 4 hours per shift
  • Must have the ability to be seated for up to 4 hours to operate equipment or vehicles
  • Must have the ability to work from elevated positions, walk/climb up and down stairs/steps and climb on and off equipment and ladders
  • Must have the ability to wear required protective footwear, hearing and eye protection, and other personal protective equipment as required by Company and MSHA
  • Must have the ability to perform repetitive hand and wrist motions (push, pull, twist, handle), and have rapid reflex movements of the arms and legs and good hand to eye coordination
  • Must have the ability to lift/raise 10 - 50 lbs. without mechanical assistance frequently during the course of work shift 
  • Must have the ability to work in extreme conditions, including but not limited to changing weather conditions, dust, mud, varying levels of noise from low to high, varying degrees of light and dark, in and around artificial light and in a confined work area
