Peabody Graduate Program 2027 – Mine Engineer

Kickstart your mining career with Peabody’s 2027 Graduate Program. Gain hands-on experience at world class operations, learn from industry leaders, and contribute to the future of sustainable mining.

We are seeking graduates completing their degrees in 2027, as well as those who have graduated within the past two years. Our two-year program places you on our mine sites, working with technical teams to build practical skills and contribute to leading mining practices. Throughout the program, you’ll gain exposure to both opencut and underground mining operations.

Participants are based at our QLD or NSW mine sites, working alongside fulltime engineers, environmental specialists, and operational leaders while receiving dedicated mentorship. One of our current participants shared the following insights:

After graduating with first class honours, I signed a contract with Peabody as a graduate mining engineer, taking the opportunity to gain both opencut and underground experience. I spent my first year at Wilpinjong Coal Mine, about 40 minutes outside Mudgee, NSW. It has been a terrific experience with exposure to both operations and technical work. For the first six months onsite, I worked at the coal face with OST (2 weeks), drill and blast (2.5 months — completing my competency for Dyno taggers to fire blasts), production driving trucks (2 months — signed off to operate 789 haul trucks), maintenance, and CHPP. In the technical space, I rotated through planning, drill and blast, and geology.

I’ve also had multiple opportunities to engage with the community, such as attending a careers fair for the Midwest region at Mudgee State School and participating in sponsorship events for Mudgee Carols. One thing that continually impresses me is how much Peabody contributes to their local communities.

As I complete this year, I am now preparing to transfer to Metropolitan Coal near Wollongong, where I will spend a year gaining underground coal mining exposure.”
