About the Role

We are seeking an experienced and strategic Director – Peabody Development to join our Australian team, based in Brisbane. This pivotal role is responsible for identifying, evaluating, recommending, negotiating, and executing corporate non-coal business opportunities in Australia to support Peabody’s strategic plan.

You will manage all phases of Australian non-coal asset and resource development activities, including transaction analysis, financial modelling, due diligence, negotiations, and coordination with operational teams. Your ability to combine commercial insight with technical and regulatory knowledge will be critical to advancing Peabody’s diversification and sustainability objectives.

 

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage, execute, and advance all phases of Peabody’s Australian non-coal development activities, including transaction analysis, financial modelling, due diligence, negotiations, and execution.
  • Maintain current knowledge of markets, competitor activities, and regulatory requirements to inform project evaluations.
  • Manage existing non-coal transactions and projects developed by Peabody in Australia.
  • Lead advancement of Peabody Development initiatives utilising Australian non-coal assets/resources, including joint ventures and renewable energy projects.
  • Develop and maintain knowledge of Australia’s Safeguard Mechanism and collaborate with operations to lead or assist in complementary project development.

 

About You

  • Bachelor degree in Business Administration, Finance, or a related field would be preferred.
  • Demonstrated skills in evaluating and negotiating business transactions.
  • Ability to understand organisational goals and proactively identify opportunities to meet them.
  • Strong analytical skills for financial modelling and opportunity evaluation.
  • Excellent organisational skills with the ability to meet deadlines and thrive in a fast-paced environment.
  • Proven problem-solving skills to quickly and effectively resolve issues.
  • Ability to build positive working relationships across operational and corporate functions.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills to collaborate effectively with internal teams and external stakeholders.
  • Strong strategic influencing g abilities with decisions flowing to VP and executive level in Australia and US and managing down to site project teams.

 

Experience

  • Ideally seven or more years of relevant work experience. Strong development experience in gas or renewables.
  • Experience in project development and business development required.
  • Experience in gas and or renewable energy would be beneficial.
