About the Role
This role provides day‑to‑day leadership and support to the Commercial & Operations Accounting team, ensuring accurate financial records, strong internal controls, and consistent reporting across Peabody’s Australian operations. Reporting to the Senior Manager – Commercial & Operations Accounting, you will help maintain compliance with US GAAP, IFRS, and SOX requirements while supporting operational teams with timely insights and dependable financial processes.
This is a hands‑on role suited to an accounting manager who enjoys developing team capability, resolving operational accounting challenges, and working closely with a range of stakeholders across sites and corporate functions.
Key Responsibilities
- Ensure accurate and complete financial records across Peabody Australia operations, including general ledger integrity, key reconciliations, and adherence to US GAAP, IFRS, and SOX control requirements.
- Coordinate month‑end, quarter‑end, and year‑end processes, including journals, reconciliations, and the preparation of timely management reporting.
- Manage core operational accounting activities such as ARO and deferred development, fixed asset transactions, labour‑related accruals, foreign currency and hedge accounting, rail and port obligations, and sales‑related accounting including Incoterms.
- Support joint venture accounting requirements and statutory compliance obligations.
- Partner with mine sites and corporate teams to provide accounting support, clarify financial issues, and assist operational decision‑
- Contribute to process improvements, system enhancements (SAP advantageous, Blackline desirable), and the remediation of control gaps through accurate documentation and quality reconciliations.
- Assist with internal and external audit activities and support SEC reporting deliverables as required.

This position is based in the Fortitude Valley office on a Monday–Friday roster, with flexible work-from-home options. Flexible start/finish times and the redistributed working week give employees the option to finish at noon on Fridays. Occasional site travel may be required.
About You
- CA or CPA qualified
- 10–15 years experience, ideally within mining or heavy industry
- Experience leading or coaching small teams
- Strong working knowledge of US GAAP and IFRS
- Familiarity with internal controls and SOX highly regarded
- SAP experience highly advantageous; Blackline desirable
- Advanced Excel and strong analytical skills
- Experience in joint venture accounting beneficial
- Strong organisational skills with the ability to manage deadlines
- Excellent communication and relationship‑building skills
- A practical, detail‑focused approach with a willingness to get involved in the work
