Job Requirements

  • Proficient in Rockwell PLC programming software and building of associated programs
  • Proficient in high, medium and low voltage wiring
  • Proficient in motor control wiring
  • Proficient in atmospheric monitoring devices such as Conspec
  • Proficient in troubleshooting ground monitoring, ground fault and feeder relay devices for low and high voltage circuits
  • Proficient in programming ABB VFD drives
  • Proficient in wiring complete belt drives, MCC rooms and communication systems
  • Proficient in fiber optics and associated switches and devices
  • Possess working knowledge of all phases of electrical procedures and problems as well as knowledge of mining and industrial electrical and electronic practices
  • Proficient in the design and repair of all electrical related mining equipment, especially those related to continuous mining units and all equipment that distributes electrical power to the location
  • Must be able to deal with all levels of management and labor in an effective manner and possess effective leadership and management capabilities
  • A thorough understanding of laws governing electrical equipment
  • Must be capable of acquiring all necessary state and federal certifications

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide direction and service support to mining and preparation plant operations in formulating electrical requirements for their mines, facilities and equipment
  • Ensure that electrical equipment and facilities are maintained at the optimal designed level
  • Ensure adequate and efficient power distribution systems by formulating and maintaining long rang plans and approving electrical design and specifications
  • Contribute to compliance of electrical regulation by interpreting state and federal laws
  • Contribute to effective financial planning by providing operations with cost estimates for electrical projects
  • Ensure the operations have the most efficient electrical equipment available by developing specifications and selecting equipment to be purchased
  • Institute current maintenance practices as they relate to all electrical systems and support ongoing maintenance process improvements
  • Participate/facilitate root cause failure analyses leading to corrective actions for chronic failures
  • Inspect work area and plant for hazards, damage and defects
  • Undertake repairs or component changeouts as required
  • Ensure activities comply with safety, environmental and statutory requirements
  • Other duties as assigned by the company

Physical Requirements

SURFACE AND UNDERGROUND ENVIRONMENT

  • Must have the ability to stand for prolonged periods of time on uneven, rocky surfaces for up to the entire length of shift
  • Must have the ability to be seated for up to 4 hours to operate equipment and vehicles
  • Must have the ability to walk for up to 4 hours at a time.  Will be required to walk through different sections of the mine with varying degrees of clearance and headroom
  • Must have the ability to wear required protective footwear, hearing and eye protection, and other personal protective equipment as required by Company and MSHA
  • Must have the ability to climb up and down stairs/steps and climb on/off equipment and ladders
  • Must have the ability to perform repetitive hand and wrist motions (push, pull, twist, handle) and have rapid reflex movements of the arms/legs and good hand to eye coordination
  • Must have the ability to lift 25-50 lbs on a frequent basis and the ability to occasionally lift items weighing up to 80 lbs
  • Must have the ability to work in extreme conditions, including but not limited to changing weather conditions, dust, mud, varying levels of noise from low to high decibels, varying degrees of light/dark, in and around artificial light and in a confined work area
  • Must have the ability to work various shifts (required shifts may include days, evening and nights, with rotating schedules, weekends and holidays)
